Using linear and non-linear kriging interpolators to produce probability maps
نویسنده
چکیده
Probability maps are used to define areas with high and low certainty of exceeding a threshold value. The most popular methods for creating these maps are variants of indicator kriging. However, such methods are questionable when the data exhibit a trend or contain measurement errors, the latter of which is common in most data sets. This paper presents an alternative approach that maps the risk of exceeding a threshold value after detrending and/or transforming the data. These methods are otherwise known as kriging on residuals and lognormal, Gaussian, and trans-Gaussian kriging. To illustrate this point an environmental case study is used to compare the predicted results for six different kriging method. All predictions and maps were made using the Geostatistical Analyst extension to ESRI ArcGIS software.

Modeling the potential habitat of Ferula ovina (Boiss) using Generalized Linear Model in Semi-Steppe rangelands of Western Isfahan
This study was aimed to predict the potential distribution of Ferula ovina (Boiss) in Feridoonshar, in the western part of Isfahan province, and to produce species response curves in relation to the environmental variables using the Generalized Linear Model (GLM). The presence and absence of the species in 278 sites (including 138 presence sites & 140 absence sites) were collected using random ...
متن کاملInvestigation of linear and non-linear estimation methods in highly-skewed gold distribution
The purpose of this work is to compare the linear and non-linear kriging methods in the mineral resource estimation of the Qolqoleh gold deposit in Saqqez, NW Iran. Considering the fact that the gold distribution is positively skewed and has a significant difference with a normal curve, a geostatistical estimation is complicated in these cases. Linear kriging, as a resource estimation method, c...
متن کاملAPPLICATION OF KRIGING METHOD IN SURROGATE MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK FOR OPTIMIZATION PROBLEMS
In this paper, Kriging has been chosen as the method for surrogate construction. The basic idea behind Kriging is to use a weighted linear combination of known function values to predict a function value at a place where it is not known. Kriging attempts to determine the best combination of weights in order to minimize the error in the estimated function value. Because the actual function value...

This paper presents three multivariate geostatistical algorithms for incorporating a digital elevation model into the spatial prediction of rainfall: simple kriging with varying local means; kriging with an external drift; and colocated cokriging. The techniques are illustrated using annual and monthly rainfall observations measured at 36 climatic stations in a 5000 km region of Portugal. Cross...

The lack of enough meteorological stations at high elevations in mountainous regions causes a limitation for using regression relations to interpolate air temperatures at different time scales. Therefore, in this study, geostatistical methods include Kriging, Co-Kriging and Weighting moving average has been compared with elevation-temperature relation using a data series of 25 years (1975-200...
